Resident led development
Queenstown Urban Village is a project to create an architecturally dynamic urban village of terraced townhouses within Queenstown. This is not an affordable housing initiative, but a more affordable housing initiative. Our focus will be on quality, sustainability, energy efficiency and enabling a good community environment.
The co-operative style structure enables a group of families/couples/individuals to combine equity and self-develop a residential project for themselves. This will increase affordability by removing a 3rd party developers profit and risk, and selling and marketing costs. This is very similar to the German Baugruppen model
Quality of design, shared spaces and architectural interest is of high importance in this development. With long term owner-occupiers being the primary end user it is important that we create a dynamic environment that allows a good quality of life, and contributes to the amenity of this special location. Sustainable and energy efficient building materials and practices will be utilised so the ongoing costs of running the homes is reduced. The use of locally made products and businesses will be utilised wherever possible.
Creating a small community network within the urban village environment through shared open spaces and access to shared communication platforms allows greater connectivity and social interactions.
